Tranquillina
Augusta AD 241 - 244
Furia Sabina Tranquillina: Wife of Gordian III.
Furia Sabinia Tranquilina was the wife of Gordian III and Augusta 241-244. She was the daughter of Gaius Furius Sabinius Thimesiteus, the Preatorian Prefect in the beginning of Gordian's reign who effectively controlled the empire. Gordian III married her two years after his accession, when he was fifteenth, in an apparent bid for a political alliance that would secure the positions of both men. Her career ended when father died during the expedition against the Persians, and Philip the Arab had her husband murdered.
