Annia Faustina
Augusta AD 221
Annia Aurelia Faustina, Third Wife of Elagabalus.
Annia Faustina was from the clan of Marcus Aurelius and third wife to Elagabalus. The marriage was an attempt on the part of the emperor's mother and grandmother to lend some prestige to their protégé's image, for he was an apparent passive homosexual and scandalized Roman society with his bizarre habits and rites. The marriage lasted about a year, 220-221, and Elagabalus repudiated her for unknown reasons to return to Aquilia Severa, his third wife who was taken from the ranks of the Vestals.
