Calypso
Calypso was a nymph. She fell in love with Odysseus and promised him immortality if he would remain on the island of Ogygia as her eternal lover. Odysseus refused, and pleaded to return to Ithaca. Calypso, however, did not comply with his request and imprisoned him on the island for seven years. When Athena found out Odysseus’ misfortune, she complained to Zeus. Zeus sent Hermes to the island of Ogygia and set Odysseus free.
