Atlas
A Titan, son of Iapetus and the nymph Clymente. The King of Atlantis. In a battle between the Titans and the Olympians, Atlas attacked the heavens. As a result, Zeus condemned him to forever bear the world on his shoulders. That is why Atlas is represented by a man carrying a globe. Perseus turned Atlas into stone using the head of Medusa as a revenge for Atlas’ incompliance to give him shelter. Today, Mount Atlas lies in the place where the Titan once stood.
