Faustina Senior - Annia Galeria Faustina.
Wife of Antoninus Pius;
Mother of Faustina Junior and Galerius Antoninus;
Ant of Marcus Aurelius;
Grandmother of Commodus, Lucilla, Annius Verus and Aurelius Antoninus.
Mints: Rome
Biography: Annia Galeria Faustina, or Faustina the Elder, became wife of Antoninus Pious when the two were in their twenties. She was the daughter of Marcus Annius Verus and the marriage was a happy one. Faustina appears to have been involved in charitable activities and sponsored education for poor Roman girls. She died in 141 and was much mourned by her husband. Antoninus had her deified and enormous number of coins with her portrait were struck to honor her memory.
