Clodius Macer
Rebel agains Nero  AD 68 (April - October AD 68)

Lucius Clodius Macer.

Clodius Macer held the title of legatus of Africa at the time of Nero's suicide and commander of a legion. After learning about the news, he revolted and cut off food supply for Italy from his province, simultaneously recruiting soldiers for a second legion. For a while he did not proclaim himself emperor and it was unclear what his designs were. However, as Galba's fortunes improved he decided to take to chances with the contumacious general and had him killed. Macer's extant coins are quite rare. There are only about 85 known to date, only 20 of which have his portrait.

Mints: Carthage.
